Former Uasin Gishu’s Ainabkoi MP William Chepkut is dead.

Reports indicate Chepkut, who had been unwell for some time, died Saturday morning while receiving treatment at a Nairobi hospital where he was rushed after collapsing.

The humorous MP who served between 2017 and 2022 lost to his rival Samuel Chepkonga of UDA in the August 9 elections after garnering 13, 510 votes against the incumbent’s 26, 479.

He was the personal aide to Nicholas Biwott, a powerful minister in retired late President Daniel Moi’s government between 1997 and 2003 before thereafter venturing into politics.

Mr Chepkut had a Bachelor of Commerce from Jabalpur University in India and Masters’ degree in Community Devt and Organisation from Kenyatta University.
