Igembe community members living in Isiolo County have announced plans of an investment project aimed at economically empowering the Ameru sub-tribe.
The community leaders noted that while they were putting in efforts to ensure unity of purpose among its members, there was a need to empower their members for improved livelihoods.
The real estate Black Mango project which will kick off early next year will see the registered community members buy shares and continually benefit throughout its phases.
“We have already started buying shares and we hope to start off in three months’ time,” noted the project Secretary Ms Rebecca Muna.
Community Chairperson Silas Mutura stressed that the initiative sought to improve the living standards of the members as that was the only surest way to financial freedom.
“We call on everyone from the Igembe community who has not registered as a member to seize the opportunity so that we can move as one team,” he said.
The leaders spoke at an event that was attended by several leaders including Wabera MCA Salesio Kiambi, County Trade and Tourism Executive Lawrence Mwongela and his chief officer Lucy Kaburu and her Public Participation counterpart Judy Karendi among other leaders.
They hailed the initiative terming it a move in the right direction on ensuring the members were financially secure.
“This is a noble idea that will ensure the Igembe community’s legacy lives on. It will not only empower members but also offer guidance on other communities that would wish to venture into investment opportunities,” said Mr Mwongela.
His remarks were echoed by MCA Kiambi who called on other Ameru sub-tribes to embrace unity of purpose instead of dwelling on non-important issues that would drag them back.
“A united team is likely to achieve more and if the entire Ameru community unites for such an initiative, it will be easier to secure economic, political and social empowerment opportunities,” he said.
