Hundreds of women in Isiolo took to the streets Wednesday protesting against Governor Abdi Guyo’s unprintable remarks that were ostensibly directed at Senator Fatuma Dullo saying an attack on the leader was an insult to women.
Governor Guyo during an interview at a local FM station last evening made remarks that portrayed the legislator in bad light and tarnished her image.
The women drawn from different parts of the county questioned the character of the county boss saying the reckless utterances he made went against the code of conduct for public servants.
Women Human Rights crusader Anab Kassim said it was unfortunate that instead of utilizing time at the station to explain his development projects to the listeners, he hurled insults and demeaned other leaders.
“You cannot use only 20 minutes to tell us what you have done since you got into office but use over two hours to demean women. That was disrespectful of you as a public officer,” she said.
Ms Kassim accused the Governor of failing to respond to queries raised by the Senate Health Committee and instead accusing the Senator of his woes.
Another resident Balafu Darimo said instead of leaders engaging in fights, there was a need to redirect their energy to development for the benefit of the electorates.
“Such utterances could cause divisions in the cosmopolitan county. Leadership should focus on delivering their constitutional mandates not exchanging insults, “she said, while questioning Guyo’s leadership qualities.
The residents also took issue with the radio presenter who moderated the talk show and sought the intervention of the investigating bodies.
“We cannot allow just single person water down the efforts we have made over the years to push for the rights of women. We appeal for the relevant authority to take up the matter, “noted Ms Lucy Mwangi.
Youth leader George Karithi who led another group in protesting against alleged lack of accountability and misuse of public resources by the county government called on Governor Guyo’s administration to exercise openness in addressing issues affecting the residents.
“You must come out clearly and tell us what you have done with the resources allocated to the county for the last two years because there is no tangible development project that we have seen,” he said
