Youths from the Ameru’s Tigania community living in Isiolo have elected new leaders to spearhead their activities and lobby for support from State and non-State actors.
While unveiling the new leadership Wednesday, the youths said they had for a long time suffered at the hands of a few selfish leaders who had the habit of lobbying for support while using the community’s name.
“We have in the past been unable to access support from local leaders due to lack of an organised system. We ask them to now make use of our leaders who have our blessings to lobby on our behalf,” noted Timothy George.
Their new Chairperson Mark Lithira said the move was aimed at ensuring unity of purpose which would steer the group to greater heights.
“We have agreed to bury our differences and join hands in bettering ourselves,” he said.
Mr Lithira called on members of a splinter group to join the team and to shun being misused to create division in the community.
“We love and value them and are ready to work with them so that we build our community together. Community leaders value you as well. Come back home,” he urged.
Group’s Patron Phineas Mutwiri hailed the move saying they were set to support the community leadership to steer the community forward.
“We appreciate the community leadership for addressing the issues affecting the youth and promising us immense support including issuance of business start-up kits,” he said, while commenting on past rift over an empowerment drive for supporting youth and women.
The group called on the community elected leaders willing to support them to do so through their officials so that the support is used for the intended purpose and on the intended persons.
