Learners at MCK Kisima Day Secondary School have celebrated the grand opening of a new kitchen and dining block constructed by Isiolo North MP Joseph Samal through the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
The Sh4.5 million infrastructure will provide the school with a decent place to cook and for the learners to take their meals unlike before when food was usually cooked in a makeshift structure and served under the trees.
Speaking during the commissioning of the project, the MP said the project was meant to ensure adequate access to education to all learners in both day and boarding schools across the constituency.
“We can only eradicate poverty by ensuring our children have access to education. That is possible when we provide adequate infrastructure in schools to give learners a conducive learning environment,” Mr Samal said.
He reiterated his commitment to promoting access to basic education through infrastructure development and issuance of bursaries.
The dining hall is the first one at the school that was started in 2018 through a partnership between the Methodist Church of Kenya and the MP’s office during his first term.
The school’s population has since risen from 11 students in March 2018 to 218 learners currently.
School Principal Ms Jacinta Kirugi termed the project as a game changer saying it would greatly encourage learners to work hard and post better results in their examinations.
“The facility will offer learners a clean and decent space to have their meals. It will also ease the congestion they have been experiencing serving food in the small kitchen,” she said.
The teacher appealed for the establishment of a dormitory to accommodate learners from far areas who spend hours while walking to the school.
“Sometimes some of our learners are not able to come to school due to the harsh climatic conditions. Whenever it rains, some of the roads are impassable. During other instances, they fear attacks while traversing through the forests to come to school,” she noted.
The MP who is on a one-week development tour across the constituency also launched Sh2.6 million two classrooms at Bulampya Secondary School.
