A family in Kathwana, Igambang’ombe Sub County is mourning death of two children aged three and five years who drowned in the swollen Maara River a week ago while grazing.
The body of the three-year-old was the following day found dumped along the river bank near the point where it joins Mutonga River many kilometers from where they reportedly drowned.
The family and villagers are still searching for the remaining body and have appealed to the government to provide divers to help them trace the body of their beloved daughter for burial.
Mr Patrick Karani the father of five-year-old Blessing Gakii told the media on Thursday that the two children were grazing with another older girl, Winfred Kathomi when they went missing.
He said Kathomi found the clothes of the two at the bank of the river suggesting that they could have attempted to swim in the flooded river.
“We are appealing to government to help us trace the body,” said Mr Karani.
Gladys Wanjiku, the mother of the deceased boy said the body of her son was moved to Chuka County Referral Hospital mortuary.
“We have been having sleepless nights since November 25 when our children drowned in the flooded Maara River,” said Ms Wanjiku.
