Bulapesa MCA David Waithaka has faulted the Isiolo Municipality over delay in repairing damaged floodlights that continues to subject residents to security threats especially at night.
The ward representative said it was unfortunate that the department was doing nothing about four floodlights were no longer functional in his ward.
“I have more than 10 times visited the concerned offices where I found no one present, their mobile phones remain unanswered. We cannot always fault Governor Abdi Ibrahim Hassan while he has employed people to directly attend to the Mwananchi issues,” he noted.
Mr Waithaka also took issue with Bulapesa health center that has been rendered inaccessible due to flooding from the recently-experienced heavy rains.
The closure has affected hundreds of residents who depend on the facility and are unable to seek services at other facilities located several kilometres away.
“I appeal to the relevant offices to move with haste and ensure reopening of the health facility that serves over 400 residents daily,”Mr Waithaka said.
The lawmaker spoke after the swearing in of nominated MCA Fatuma Abdulahi representing marginalized and minority communities in the Isiolo County Assembly.
Ms Abdulahi was sworn in to replace Kelvin Mbuthia Waruguru, who had been illegally assumed the position in September 2022 amid protests by a section of residents demanding his replacement.
His swearing in was later accompanied by a series of court battles with Meru High Court agreeing with a lower court decision nullifying Mbuthia’s nomination.
