Siaya Governor James Orengo has appointed Government Spokesperson Col. Cyrus Oguna the County Chief of Staff.

Col Oguna who took over from Mr Eric Kiraithe in May 2019 (after the officer had served in the position for 10 months) hails from Alego Usonga constituency in Siaya.

Before being appointed the State Spokes, he served as a joint national and resources mapping project spokesman and also Defence Advisor/Attache at the Kenya High Commission in Tanzania between 2014 and 2017.

He rose to limelight in 2011 thanks to his role as the in-charge of Kenya Defence Force (KDF) public affairs office and Spokesperson for military at the onset of Operation Linda Nchi, a post he held until 2013.

Col Oguna’s eloquence while updating the country on progress of the operation by KDF soldiers to capture Kismayu in Somalia amused many Kenyans.

He had previously headed KDF Intelligence Training School and has been awarded several medals including Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS).

Others appointed to Governor Orengo’s cabinet are George Nyang’iro, Caroline Onyago, Angeline Oduor and Grace Agola to Roads and Public Works, Water, Sanitation and Environment, Tourism and Trade dockets respectively.

Others are Maurice Otieno (Lands), Benedict Abonyo (Finance and Planning), Dr Edgar Otumba (Education), Aguda Ochanda (Governance) and Health’s Martin Konyango.
