A communication mast in Libehiya town, Mandera East was last night destroyed with rocket propelled grenades during a terror attack at a local primary school “targeting three non-local teachers”.
The whereabouts of the teachers, who are said to have scampered for their safety after the around 1am incident, remained unknown Wednesday morning.
National Police Reservists repulsed the attackers and secured the school.
Within the same time, another group of militants targeting security installations in Alungu, Lafey Sub-County destroyed a communication mast and two vehicles at Alungu Police Station.
“…grenades were fired at Alungu mast followed by massive gun sounds from AK-47 rifles prompting officers at the camp to speedily respond and contain the situation,” a police report read in part.
The militants fled the scene after nearly an hour of gunfight with the police officers.
Police sources said no casualties had been reported.
County Commissioner Onesmus Kyatha however maintained that no teacher had been reported missing contradicting earlier police report.
