Two 13-year-old girls drowned Sunday while swimming in Kithino River in Tharaka Nithi County.
The pair, in Grade Six and Class Seven, were swimming in company of their friends after attending Sunday service when they were overwhelmed by the raging waters.
The girls’ bodies were retrieved from the river by local residents and moved to Marimanti hospital morgue.
Nearly a month ago, three primary school pupils drowned in Kathita River where they had gone to fetch water to wash their school uniforms in preparation for reopening.
