Njuri Ncheke Council of Elders Tharaka Nithi Chairperson Mr Kang’ori M’Thaara has passed on.
Reports indicate that the elders died in a Meru based hospital where he was admitted after he fell ill on Monday.
It remains unclear what he was suffering from with burial preparations underway at his home in Iruri village, Maara constituency.
Leaders and elders have eulogized him as a peace champion who was committed to having a united and prosperous community.
He was among a section of the county elders who in April 2019 advised Governor Muthomi Njuki offers a bull for sacrifice to “cleanse” him and the county of a “curse”.
Hundreds of women from across the county had the previous month stormed the Governor’s office and dumped their underwears at the gate over alleged disrespect of women by Mr Njuki.
Mr Kang’ori had insisted that if not “cleansed” the Governor would have faced adversities but the politician dismissed the elders and the women saying they had been hired by his political foes.
The elder’s death comes a year and two months after National Council of Elders Chair and former Njuri Ncheke Council of Elders Secretary General Phares Rutere died from Covid-19 related complications while aged 80 years.
