A Laikipia University don has moved to the Employment and Labour Relations Court in Nakuru seeking orders to compel the institution to reinstate her to her post of associate professor post following alleged unfair dismissal.
Loise Wanjiku Chiuri also wants the court to order the University to pay damages over termination of her contract which she says has tainted her credentials and reputation as a scholar.
In documents submitted in court, Prof Wanjiku says she was appointed Deputy VC for Academic Affairs and Research in November 2015, a position she held for five years.
She told the court that the university council rejected her application to renew her contract as DVC.
The don had also been appointed to permanent and pensionable post of associate professor of Environmental Science in 2018.
Prof Wanjiku wants the court to declare her sacking unfair, unjustified and illegal for the university to reinstate her and clear outstanding salary and allowances from December 2020.
She is seeking to be paid Sh6 million for malicious termination, gratuity totaling to Sh2 million for DVC position for year 2020 and Sh1.6 million in lieu of a notice of three months.
The council annulled her associate professor post for having allegedly failed to report to the Department of Public Adminstration and Environmental Sciences for directions within three months.
But the don maintained that she was allocated classes that she taught and even administered exams, marked and submitted results.
The University has in its response termed the don’s appointment as associate professor irregular saying the dismissal was correctional.
