Light Academy’s KCSE 2021 top student and fifth best nationally Ramadhan Musa Tepo’s performance put Isiolo County on national limelight.
His grade of A plain of 87.103 points makes him the first student from the county to make it to top 10 nationally in KCPE and KCSE exams.
The highest that has been achieved in the past is A- minus of 78 points by one Mohammed Jillo who sat KCSE exams at Isiolo Boys High School in 2014.
Hailing from Kambi Garba and a third born in a family of five, Ramadhan is an alumni of St Kizito Primary and Ikhlas Academy where he sat his KCPE exams in 2017 and scored 433 marks topping in the county.
“I kept the hard working spirit from primary and that is why I performed well. I thank God, my parents and teachers for the support they gave me,” Ramadhan told journalists at their home amid celebrations.
Being time conscious and spending most of his free time studying, he said, enabled him post the exemplary results.
“He has been obedient and hardworking all through and we are so happy that he is among the top performers countrywide,” his father Musa Tepo Ade said.
Ramadhan intends to pursue Medicine to help the Isiolo community which he says was struggling to access proper and quality healthcare.
“Success does not come like that. You have to focus and put in extra effort to achieve your dreams,” he added.
Coincidentally, Isiolo’s top student in 2020 KCSE exams, Abdi Mohammed Warsamed of Isiolo Barracks Secondary who got A- of 76 points also hailed from Kambi Garba.
Isiolo’s Sericho Secondary School is among those that posted good results in the KCSE exams with the first student Iliyas Ali attaining B+ of 68 points.
Other top performers at the school were Madina Ali Roba, Adan Roba Diba and Dahabo Jillo who all got B Plain.
The school had 80 candidates out of which 41 got C+ and above with its mean score soaring to 6.8 from 5.53 in 2020 KCSE exams.
Other top performers from Northern Kenya include a 38-year-old mother of six from Mandera Sabriya Ismail Ahmed who got a B- minus at Newlife Secondary school.
The woman, who dropped out of Qubaa Secondary in Mombasa while in form two 23 years ago due to financial constraints, went back to school in 2019.
She had in the process been married but got the urge to complete her education.
The woman sat KCSE with her son and daughter with the latter scoring B plain.
