Mang’u High School’s Jariel Ndenda Obura has topped 2021 KCSE exams with 87.16 points.
He is followed by Mukuha Timothy Kamau of Alliance High who got 87.139 points.
Others are Job Ngara who got 87.116 (Mang’u), Chege David Kamau of St Joseph Boys in Kitale who got 87.104 and Light Academy’s Ramadhan Musa Tepo who got 87.103.
Also in the list of top performers was Kenya High School’s Mwenda Cicily Mutheu, Kakamega School’s Ian Mwai Toyota and Pita Shekina Wise of Kenya High who got 87.086, 87.084 and 87.079 points respectively.
Mshindi Daniel Ouma of Light Academy, Kipsigis Girls’ Brenda Cherotich, Mugane Job Ngatia of Strathmore School and Kapsabet’s Pretie Ariona got 87.076, 87.066, 87.064 and 87.059 points respectively.
A total of 826, 807 candidates (421, 318 male and 405, 489 female) sat the exams countrywide up from 747, 161 in 2020 exams. Of the 2021 figures,
While announcing the results, Education CS George Magoha said a total of 1138 candidates scored A up from 893 in 2020 exams.
Of the number, 789 were boys and 349 girls while those who scored A (minus) were 5973.
Prof Magoha hailed several most improved candidates who performed dismally in KCPE exams but posted outstanding results in the KCSE exams.
They included Cheptoo Sharon who scored 267 marks in KCPE but managed A (minus) at Lelu secondary, Najma Mohammed Hassan who got 113 marks in KCPE but scored B (plain) at Banisa Mixed Secondary in Garissa and Okoth Cindy Adhiambo of Sigoti Complex Girls Secondary who got B (plain). She had scored 165 marks in KCPE.
Others were Mbilo Boniface Wambua, Maina Humphrey Mwangi, Kituku Simon Mavii and Njoroge Kevin Mwangi who got 241 marks, 211 marks, 221 marks and 207 marks but all scored B (plain) at Njukini Mixed Secondary, Gathiruini Secondary, ABC Kambusu Secondary and Jehova Jireh secondary schools respectively.
Day Sub-County Secondary schools registered impressive performance with a total of 17, 327 attaining C+ and above with 128 of them getting A- and above.
The 10 best performed Sub-County schools were Nyakeore Secondary (65.25), Kebulonik Secondary (57.96), Banisa Mixed Secondary (51.39), Manyatta Mixed Day Secondary (50.67) and Shibanga Mixed Secondary (50.52).
Others were Heni Secondary School (46.07), Mary Happy Day School (41.40) and Alfarsy Girls Secondary that attained a performance index of 36.22.
A total of 18 counties had more female candidates than male candidates. They were Nyandarua, Nyeri, Vihiga, Nairobi, Tharaka Nithi, Meru, Murang’a, Elgeyo Marakwet, Uasin Gishu, Busia, Kirinyaga, Kakamega, Kisumu, Laikipia, Kitui, Machakos, Kiambu and Taita Taveta.
The CS said 441 exam cheating cases were reported in the exams and one case of a centre with all the results withheld.
The cases included 203 unauthorized materials, 223 seized mobile phones, eight impersonation, six collusion and one case of causing disturbance in the examination room.
“I want to state categorically that that Kenya National Examination Council will not have any mercy on examination offenders,” he said.
