At least 30 pedestrians have died and more than 90 sustained injuries along Nairobi highways in less than two months.
Nairobi Traffic Commander Joshua Omukata said majority of the accidents were a result of recklessness on pedestrians who instead of using designated foot bridges choose to cross the the road.
Mr Omukata regretted that the accidents would have been avoided if the motorists and pedestrians religiously adhered to traffic rules and feared that the cases might rise significantly by the end of the year.
The police boss further revealed that Thika, Mbagathi and Outering roads had recorded the highest number of accidents between January and February 10.
He announced a crackdown on motorists who were not complying with the traffic guidelines in bid to reduce the accidents.
Pedestrians who do not use designated foot bridges would be subjected to the law.
