Police in Mombasa are hunting down a group of gang that reportedly broke into a Toyota Prado belonging to Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) staffers and stole Sh700, 000 worth of valuables.
Reports indicate that the occupants of the vehicle had alighted at 1st Avenue in Nyali for breakfast while they were on an assignment in the coast.
When they returned, they were shocked to find that the car’s left window vent glass had been broken and a laptop and camera worth Sh120, 000 and Sh500, 000 respectively missing.
Other personal effects including handbags and documents were also missing.
Footages obtained from CCTV cameras captured two suspicious vehicles parked at the front and rear sides of the broken vehicle that later speed off after seconds.
Reports further indicate that the group of suspected criminals has been operating within Mombasa City and works by blocking the targeted cars to ensure to ensure no curious person or CCTV captures what is happening.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has urged motorists to exercise extra caution while in the city by constantly checking their vehicles whenever the alarm goes off as that may thwart criminal activities.
