Businessman-cum-politician Jimi Wanjigi has been arrested over alleged land fraud.
His arrest comes several hours after a security raid at his Kwacha house in Parklands by detectives from the Anti-Terror Police Unit.
Sources intimated to The Press Point that Mr Wanjigi is likely to be charged with fraud on Wednesday.
He is expected to spend the night at Kamukunji Police Station cells ahead of arraignment.
Documents seen by The Press Point show that Mr Wanjigi together with others are likely to face four counts of conspiracy to commit felony, procuring execution of company by false pretense, uttering false document to defraud and obtaining money by false pretense.
The politician with two others in June 2018 reportedly defrauded Kenroid Limited Sh56 million while pretending that they were in a position to sell them 0.3314 hectares of land registered to Auream Limited.
Mr Wanjigi dismissed the land fraud claims saying he had in 2018 complained over some fraudsters who were allegedly attempting to grab the land adjacent to his Kwacha office.
“I am not a director or shareholder to the company and I do not exist anywhere. It is so sad that after complaining in 2018 over some fraudsters who were trying to take the land away from us, years later we are culprits,” he said.
“The arrest has nothing to do with guns or properties but persecution. These are just lies about a crime we know nothing about,” he added.
He said he was targeted for making election uncomfortable for some leaders and wondered why he was being arrested during electioneering time like it happened in 2017.
The move, he said, could have been aimed at disrupting his planned ODM special delegates’ congress to elect President of the Party in 21 days scheduled for coming weekend.
