Twelve (12) people including four General Service Unit (GSU) officers have been killed in suspected Al-Shabaab attacks in Lamu County in the last one week.
Six people were killed and property of unknown value destroyed in Lamu West when the assailants ambushed a village on Monday.
Among those killed were a village elder who was reportedly beheaded and his home torched during the attack.
Four days later, the suspected militants attacked a vehicle carrying security officers who were headed to work at Ndeu roadblock killing them on the spot.
The militants would again attack Juhudi Salama village on Sunday night killing two more people forcing residents to flee from their homes to seek refuge in nearby schools and market centers.
Locals have accused security officers of laxity saying if they had been vigilant the killings would have been prevented.
Coast Regional Commissioner Mr John Elungata said security had been beefed up in the affected areas and urged locals and elected leaders to cooperate with the security teams in bid to arrest the assailants.
