Police officers from Ngewa in Kiambu last evening rescued a 38-year-old man from irate members of the public who were beating him up for attempting to rape a woman on her way home from Kwa Maiko shopping centre.
Peter Kariuki reportedly waylaid the victim at a secluded place and attempted to rape her but she screamed attracting responders to the scene.
The furious residents descended on the man with blows and kicks before police officers arrived at the scene and rescued him.
Mr Kariuki was rushed to local health centre where he was treated and discharged and later detained at Ngewa Police Station awaiting his arraignment.
