Detectives in Nairobi are interrogating five suspects who defrauded a Korean national off Sh2.9 million promising to sell him gold.
The five, Fatuma Mohammed, Robinson Gitau, Eva Kimotho, Livai Kombo aged 28, 35, 36 and 39 years respectively and a 36-year-old Uria Kugi, a Cameroon national, were arrested during a joint security operation.
Police reports indicate that the suspects had initially shown Mr Song Sung some well parked bars that were later established to be fake gold.
The suspects, reportedly working with Ekweme enterprises, immediately went into hiding after receiving the money from Mr Sung at an area within outskirts of Karen.
Police recovered boxes containing the fake gold during the operation.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigation has cautioned foreigners and Kenyans against falling prey of fraudsters pretending to be genuine business people in gold business but are out to steal from the unsuspecting investors.
The suspects are expected to be arraigned later today.
