A section of Meru youths have threatened to sue national government for spending taxpayers money on BBI rallies as the county hosts the Mt Kenya’s consultative rally this Saturday at Kinoru stadium.
The Press Point has established that the youths are planning to wear red attires during the rally that President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to attend and have already booked a venue at Maili Tatu for parallel meeting should they be barred from the stadium one.
The group secretary Kenneth Muriuki lamented that youths had been left out in the ongoing consultative forums that seeks to popularize the document and collect views from Kenyans for consideration in the final report.
He said the government should instead of spending billions on BBI, use the funds to create job opportunities to millions of jobless youths.
While it has been previously disputed, BBI was slated to cost at least Sh10 billion.
The youths said Mr Kenyatta should be held responsible for committing huge chunks of money towards the report at the expense of deteroriating economy.
The leader also lashed out at Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi for asking anti-BBI supporters to keep off the Saturday event arguing that his remarks were against the report’s inclusivity aspect.
While recommending increased allocation to devolved units to 45 percent, the youth secretary said 30 percent should be spent on development while 15 percent on recurrent expenditure.
“Governors should only receive 15 percent to cater for recurrent expenditure while the rest of the monies goes to development. This will reduce misuse of taxpayers money,” Muriuki said.
