Eleven students who were arrested in connection with attempted arson in two secondary schools in Nyeri County have been charged.

Eight of the minors from Kiandu Secondary school reportedly attempted to burn toilets and form one block on November 3.

Appearing before Senior Magistrate James Macharia, the eight earlier claimed they were arrested for failing to disclose the arson plan.

Their three colleagues from Kagumo High school who were reportedly found in possession of a match box, one and half litres of paraffin and 500 millilitres of methylated spirit were accused of planning to bring down a section of the school on November 7.

The learners claimed the school did not conduct thorough investigation to establish the real suspects saying they were framed by their fellow students.

The three from Kagumo High School were November 10 released on Sh50, 000 cash bail each while the eight from Kiandu on Sh40, 000 cash bail each.

The court had earlier directed that they be detained until they are allocated state counsels to represent them in the case.
