Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i has ordered all law enforcers in the counties to prioritize security of female aspirants against any form of violence and harassment during electioneering time.
Speaking after commissioning the construction of Limuru Sub-County police headquarters on Monday, Dr Matiang’i instructed the security officers to ensure special attention is given to women aspirants to ensure they fully exercise their democratic right of voting and vying for political seats.
“The maturity of our democracy will be tested on the level of participation of every voter and aspirant in the elections including women and the vulnerable population,” the CS said.
Additionally, the administrators are expected to compile a database of all female aspirants in their counties and map down their security needs to enable close monitoring and protection.
Women have previously been victims of GBV during campaigns.
