The ongoing new voter registration has been extended for a week following a petion from a Kenyan who argued that ending the exercise tomorrow could lock out many voters from participating in the 2022 general elections.

Patrick Toroitich Cherono said the one month was not enough and therefore need to give eligible voters more time to register and exercise their democratic rights.

Justice Erick Ogola of the High Court in Eldoret ordered IEBC to extend the exercise and the petitioner to serve the electoral agency and the National Assembly who are the respondents in the suit in seven days.

This comes as apathy continues to be witnessed in the country with IEBC having so far registered one million new voters against the 4.5million target.
