The Equity Bank Foundation in partnership with Kenya Covid-19 Fund Board has donated locally manufactured Personal Protective Equipments (PPEs) to Mater Care Mission Hospital that will enable the facility to handle Covid-19 patients.

The PPEs included disposable gowns, gloves and surgical masks that are meant to protect the frontline health care workers who are at high risk of contracting the virus while attending to patients.

Speaking during the handing over event at the hospital, Equity Bank Northern Region Manager Mr Hassan Maalim said the initiative was part of the bank’s social responsibility meant to enhance hospitals ability to handle and deal with the pandemic.

“We cannot sit and watch while our people suffer because we exist to transform lives,” said Mr Maalim.

He added that the bank had set aside funds to provide the equipment to hospitals across the country to ensure safety of the healthcare providers while attending to patients.

The Mission Hospital head Sr Mercy Kithinji said the donation was timely as the facility was faced with shortage of PPEs putting lives of health workers at risk.

She said the health workers will now be able to handle the patients without fear of contracting the deadly disease.

“It feels bad when you are trained in a particular field but cannot discharge your duties accordingly because you fear for your life,” she said while asking residents to strictly follow the Ministry of Health Protocols and take the jab for their own safety.

“It is neither the hospital’s nor government’s responsibility to protect you from infection but everyone’s,” she stressed.
