We might differ on this but I personally feel our former Governor Godana Doyo need to practice mature politics.
I watched incumbent Dr Mohammed Kuti being heckled by a group of youths who were calling him names over unfulfilled promises and who I believe have the right to do so, during ODM Leader Raila Odinga’s visit in Isiolo.
The situation was so serious that the county chief was turned into a spectator in an event that he was part of its planning and had to watch visitors shine in his backyard.
The hecklers, who were reportedly mobilized by some of the leaders, were chanting “Doyo” as a section of the local leaders spoke making it hard for them to be heard but were at least considerate enough to have let Mr Odinga sell his agenda of Azimio la Umoja.
Cognizant that he had a huge following Mr Doyo should have at least helped his brother (Kuti) by sparing him the embarrassment but chose to celebrate.
Regardless of the allegations leveled against Governor Kuti, Mr Doyo should have offered some guidance and leadership to at least ensure the meeting goes on peacefully if not lobbying for the incumbent to speak.
When the shouting youths demanded that Dr Kuti grants Mr Doyo the microphone, the latter should have at least tried to calm his supporters but just went on with his address without minding his Governor.
Had he been considerate, he would have tried to beg the crowd to listen to Dr Kuti but his action showed he might have been part of the scheme to embarrass the Governor.
Amid their differences, Mr Doyo should have proven to the Nation that he was ready to embrace other leaders but I really doubt if what he did was anything close to that.
I have always trusted the former Governor but on this one, I am totally disappointed.
I don’t want to mention the ordeal that former EACC boss Halakhe Waqo went through as he tried to shout while addressing the crowd due to heckling by the protesting youths.
And while we all have freedom of expression, we should exercise tolerance to each other if our county and country is to progress.
Again, while we cheer our preferred leaders, let us not be fooled into becoming fools that actually we are not.
Isiolo is bigger than all of us and being tolerant to each other won’t cost us anything.
