Police officers ostensibly enforcing an eviction notice at Mwangaza in Isiolo had to fire in the air to disperse rowdy residents who protested over the exercise.
Gunshots rent in the air for several hours as the officers and residents engaged in running battles for nearly two hours.
Residents lit tyres protesting the demolition of structures within the disputed land near Isiolo International Airport.
Police sources intimated to The Press Point that the eviction was guided by a court order that the land owner got over continued encroachment into the land.
Mwangaza is synonymous with land grabbing and cases of double allocation are so common that a big number of the plots continue to lay idle due to active court orders requiring status quo be maintained preventing the development of the parcels.
