Police in Marimanti, Tharaka Nithi are investigating an incident where a seven-year-old girl died and seven children were hospitalized after taking meat from a chicken that was reportedly ill.
The girl was reportedly called by her grandfather to his house where she was served chicken meat before being allowed back home.
It would later be established that several other children had taken the same meal, all of who developed stomach complications and dizziness including the late girl who died while waiting to be admitted to the Critical Care unit.
One of the children who was rushed to Marimanti Level Four Hospital with others said she just ate some meat as an odour came from the meal.
Parents were shocked to see foam coming out of the children’s mouths with doctors at the hospital confirming that their vomit had a chemical-like smell.
Detectives are looking into the possibility that the children could have been poisoned by the old man.
