A six-year-old primary school learner in Kisii has been knocked down by a speeding vehicle while on the way home to bring Sh60 meant for school fees.

The Grade Two pupil at Nyemare Primary was reportedly sent home by the school headteacher to bring the cash but was hit by the vehicle, that later fled, dying on the spot.

Area Sub-County Police Commander Charles Muchini said the manhunt for the driver had been launched.

Parents took to the streets demonstrating against the headteacher who they said had developed the habit of sending children home for baseless reasons.

“The teacher should instead (of sending learners home) be summoning parents who have not met his expectations,” one of the parents said.
