Tharaka Nithi Huduma family on Friday donated sanitary pads and soaps to about 50 girls of Ikuu Special School in Chuka Igambang’ombe constituency.
The pads will take the girls for about five months according to Huduma Manager Abdi Mohammed.
A representation of the more than 60 members of Huduma team also donated foodstuff and spent nearly half day with the mentally challenged boys and girls.
The manager told The Press Point that apart from donating the pads, they also interacted with the boys and the girls in quest to make them feel recognized as part of the community.
“Our main aim was to ensure that the girls, who are mature, have enough pads to at least take them for five months,” Abdi said.
The officer asked local leaders to support the special school and others in the county noting that they had concentrated so much on the public schools.
“I am appealing to our leaders to support special schools such as Ikuu as the girls have more needs than those in public schools,” he said.
Mary Mwende, a resident lauded the Huduma team and faulted the County Women Representative Beatrice Nkatha for not supporting the special school among others in the county.
“What is the work of the county MP if she cannot buy sanitary pads for girls with special needs,” Mwende posed while also calling on the Muthomi Njuki led government and local MPs to chip in and help such schools.
