The Meru High Court is set to deliver a ruling on a case where the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) got orders to freeze accounts belonging to five contractors that were paid by the Isiolo County government for goods and services that were not reportedly delivered.
EACC moved to court seeking orders to freeze accounts belonging to Dabasiti Contractors and Suppliers Ltd, Choke Construction Company Ltd, Almasi’s store Ltd, Noyasu construction Company Ltd and Rayan Provision Stores Ltd after gathering evidence that the money was illegally acquired.
The anti-graft agency obtained six-month orders under the miscellaneous application in December 2020 to hold Sh46 million and later after the expiry of the period, sought three more months to complete investigations.
It is reported that the contractors colluded with some county officials to be paid the money for payment of food and hiring of vehicles, services said to have been offered during the previous regime.
The court will on August 12 give further directions on whether EACC should continue holding the money, whether it should be handed back to contractors or it will be reverted to the public coffers.
