Policewoman Caroline Kangogo, who was found dead inside a bathroom at their Iten home in Elgeyo Marakwet on July 16, died from a single gunshot to the head, an autopsy shows.
The incident occurred as Ms Kangogo was being sought over the murder of her colleague John Ogweno and Kiambu-based businessman Peter Ndwiga.
The post-mortem report indicated that the bullet pierced through the officer’s spine, after entering through the right chin, severing her brain before coming out via the left side of the skull.
Chief Government Pathologist Dr Johansen Odour, who conducted the autopsy, said the body had a gunshot wound on the left side of the head above the ear but did not reveal whether the late officer killed herself or was shot by someone else.
He said samples and swabs collected will help establish the nature of the death.
Police reports earlier indicated that the officer could have committed suicide by shooting herself using a firearm even as several actors called for further investigations and ruled out suicide claims.
Last week, the family protested after their appeal to be given the body of Ms Kangogo failed despite a planned post-mortem having been halted.
