Police in Mombasa are holding a man who reportedly set his wife ablaze after he found she had cooked food while he had not left money at home.
The man, reports indicate, arrived home in the evening and started accusing the victim of taking money from another man.
An argument ensued and the man poured paraffin on her before lighting a matchbox.
According to witnesses, the suspect later rushed out of the house and came back with a basin of water that he used to put the fire out.
He later reported to in-laws that the wife had sustained burns while she was cooking.
The victim is recuperating at a local hospital while the suspect is held at Changamwe Police Station awaiting arraignment over grievous harm.
