An Administration Police officer and two other suspects have been arrested in connection with murder of an influential political blogger from Kibwezi East, Makueni County who died under unclear circumstances in February this year.

Abdullahi Wako, an AP officer attached to CIPU in Kitengela, Amos Kyondu working with Kenya Power and Lightning Company (KPLC) and Abed Musembi a political aspirant were arrested following investigations by the sleuths and will be interrogated over the murder.

Police reports indicate that Mr Augustus Mwathe had joined his three friends at a club in Mlolongo, Machakos County on the fateful evening.

At around 11pm, he in company of one friend identified as Charles Mulei left the place and headed home, with Mr Mulei offering to drop him using his car since the deceased had no means to reach home.

On the way, Mr Mwathe called his girlfriend informing her that he would be at home in a short while.

The girlfriend would later try reaching him to no avail.

The following morning, the girlfriend received a call from Mr Mwathe informing her that he had been attacked by unknown people and was receiving treatment at a private hospital in Athi River.

The would succumb later to severe abdominal pain at the hospital.

Information shared by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) revealed that the suspects are persons of interest in the death of Mr Mwathe who had reportedly fallen out with a political aspirant from the area before he met his untimely death.

“We are currently interrogating the suspects, to ascertain the circumstances leading to the attack and their possible involvement in Mwathe’s death,” read part of the DCI update.

The DCI has also called upon members of the public to anonymously share information that could assist in ongoing probe.
