The two officers, a driver and an official, from the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) who had gone missing since Friday evening walked for nearly 10 Kilometers seeking refuge before a multi-agency security team rescued them.
The two, who were on their way to Merti for an official duty, had stopped to change a punctured tyre at Kom area when they spotted a group of armed men.
According to USAID-funded Nawiri project Marsabit County Coordinator Ali Dida, the officials ran for their lives when the bandits started firing in the air abandoning the vehicle on the road.
“They had to flee from the site for their safety and seek asylum in the bush,” said Mr Dida.
A multi-agency security team that was dispatched to the area yesterday evening did not manage to rescue the two, but reinforcement led by County Police Commander Joseph Kigen and County Criminal Investigation Officer Betty Chepng’eno helped achieve the mission on Saturday morning.
The search was conducted by security teams from Isiolo and Samburu and conservancy rangers.
“We sent some officers yesterday evening who only managed to get the vehicle. The two were rescued today (Saturday) morning,” Mr Kigen told journalists at Isiolo Police Station.
The two were found in a bush about eight kilometres from the scene.
“They are safe and our officers got the valuables they had left in the vehicle,” he noted.
