Isiolo County Commissioner Herman Shambi has urged residents to collaborate with security organs to combat criminal activities that continue to wreak havoc especially at the Isiolo-Samburu border.
Six people were killed at Attan, Ngaremara ward when two groups from Turkana and Samburu communities clashed resulting to hours of fire exchange over the weekend.
The administrator decried surge in cattle rustling cases saying that it the cases could be amicably resolved if residents volunteer information with police.
“If residents could be supporting the security organs, we could have brought all the culprits to book and arrested the situation,” Mr Shambi told journalists in Isiolo town after holding a security meeting with a section of the local leaders.
The administrator maintained that the security team was committed to addressing attacks being perpetrated by groups of young people masquerading as normal grazers only to later steal animals and even kill people.
“They are criminal groups and we are fully prepared to deal with them ruthlessly,” he stressed.
Ngaremara MCA Ekwam Teru urged local leaders and elders to come together and chart way forward adding that the two communities should continue co-existing as brothers and sisters.
“As leaders, we are ready and willing to bring together elders from the two communities for lasting unity to be achieved,” said Mr Teru.
His Oldonyiro counterpart David Lemantile, said security was a collective responsibility and urged residents to desist fights over pastures and water.
“The resources in the county belong to everyone therefore no one should feel superior over the other community,” said Mr Lemantile.
