The Service Party (TSP) Leader Mwangi Kiunjuri was on Saturday smoked out of a Tharaka Nithi hotel by charged police officers for holding a meeting against the Ministry of Health guidelines.
The attendants of the meeting held at a Chogoria hotel, Maara constituency including former Tharaka Nithi Governor Samuel Ragwa and Muthomi Micheni vying for Chuka Igambang’ombe MP seat were teargassed by the officers halting the exercise.
Mr Kiunjuri was on membership hunt mission in the constituency after starting off in Gatunga and Marimanti, Tharaka constituency on Friday.
The police officers ambushed the leaders while addressing journalists at the hotel, teargassed and flushed them out of the popular joint.
Mr Kinjuri lamented that the act was politically instigated maintaining that they had observed the Covid-19 protocols.
He asked security organs to ensure fair justice to all claiming that several meetings were ongoing in other parts of the country.
While praising Mr Kiunjuri for coming up with a regional party that is open to all, Mr Ragwa asked the government to stop what he termed as selective justice.
