A group of youth in Isiolo has embarked on a cycling program aimed at eradicating vices by ensuring that young people are involved in various activities.

The group of nearly 20 young men and women meet every weekend to cycle for several Kilometers in bid to prevent idleness besides helping maintain physical and mental fitness.

The engagements also help the youth discover and develop their talents.

Ms Idah Gakii said after joining the group, she was able to discover her talent and began dedicating time and effort towards nurturing it.

“When we come together, we discuss issues affecting us and therefore reduce stress,” the female cyclist said.

Isiolo Cyclists Club Chairperson, Erick Mwenda said the initiative ensured that young people were fully engaged therefore eradicating drug and substance abuse among the youths.

“We apart from cycling, also indulge in other activities such as singing, dancing and drawing to ensure young people are not idle and are able to develop their skills and talent,” he told the press point.

The group’s organizing secretary, Wisdom Kizito said while cycling, the members take a water break, where they sit and talk about different issues affecting them.

“The meetings we have during the break enable us share our experiences and encourage each other,” Mr Mwenda said.

The group that is supported by philanthropist Mwenda Thuranira who is eyeing Isiolo North Parliamentary seat, called upon elected leaders to support youth initiatives to help reduce vices in the society.

“We urge other leaders to chip in and assist the youths realize their dreams,” said Mr Kizito.
