Police in Kirinyaga County have warned of continued crackdown on speeding miraa vehicles in efforts to restore sanity on the busy Embu-Kirinyaga-Nairobi highway.
Mwea East Sub-County Police Commander Daniel Kitavi blamed careless miraa drivers for the increased accidents along the stretch that have claimed several lives and left a number injured in the recent past.
The Police boss said no one will be spared in the exercise that seeks to arrest and prosecute drivers flouting traffic rules.
Mr Kitavi said at least 10 drivers had been arrested and charged in the last one month and that majority of them were found guilty and fined between Sh5, 000 and Sh10, 000.
According to the drivers and miraa farmers in Meru, the crop must be transported as fast as possible as it is highly perishable.
