Mumo Faith of Kari-Mwailu primary school in Makueni County has topped the 2020 KCPE with 433 marks out of possible 500 marks as public schools across the country performed exemplary compared to private ones.
In the second position was Wesonga Nanzala from Chogoria Girls Primary School who tied with Angel Gakena of Maseno Girls Boarding at 432 marks.
Of the top 15 candidates nationally whose results were announced by Education CS George Magoha, eight of them were girls and 10 of the pupils were from public schools. The first three were girls.
Nzoia Sugar’s Wanyonyi Samuel, Castro Williams of Crystal Hill Academy and St Mathews Septonok’s Tarus Chepkemboi Laureen all scored 431 marks.
Kipkirui Abiud of Lessos Hills Adventist followed with 430 marks and was followed closely by Mwangi Margaret Waruguru (Karatina DEB), Bernice Checed Omondi (Nairobi Primary) and Kiogora Joy Nkatha of Chogoria Girls who tied at 429 marks.
Other schools that featured in the top 15 include Emmanuel Springs Academy, Fred’s Academy and Ober Boys.
A total of 1, 179, 192 candidates sat the exams across the 28, 460 centres in the country between March 22 and March 24 this year in unusual circumstances occasioned by Covid-19.
Prof Magoha said though the first pupil’s score was a drop from 440 in 2019, there was an improvement in the general performance across the country.
To access the results, candidates should send their index numbers followed by KCPE to 20076.
The results can also be accessed at the Sub-County education offices or at the schools.
