Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has been ordered to compensate young man who was electrocuted while grazing cattle at Antubetwe area, Igembe North in Meru county in October, 2015.
The victim, who fell on live wires that were lying on the ground was rushed to a nearby hospital while in unconscious state where he was admitted for close to four months and had his right arm amputated.
The 22-year old sustained serious injuries following the electrocution and doctors at one time recommended fitting with a myoelectric prosthesis and occupational therapy so he could learn to use his left hand.
The man earlier told court that he needed a prosthesis worth sh8 million to help him undertake normal duties.
In its defense, the power firm denied liability saying the victim was to blame for the accident.
But Meru High Court judge Francis Gikonyo in his ruling said the company was to blame for the accident and ordered it to pay the injured man sh15 million for future medical expenses, suffering and special damages among others.
