A big number of health care workers in Isiolo are reluctant to take the Covid-19 jab amid continued appeal by the health officials, the Press Point has learnt.
The health department has already raised concern over the low uptake of the jab as less than 30 workers have been vaccinated in the last three days.
A few health workers who spoke to thepresspoint.com cited potential harm and side effects of the AstraZeneca vaccine and failure by the health officials to take the jab as among the reasons for their hesitance.
A clinical officer at one of the local health facilities said she will take the jab after all the health officials and leaders are vaccinated.
“We are worried about its safety. I will personally take it after all the officials and leaders are vaccinated,” the officer told thepresspoint.com.
The vaccine has been banned in some countries over reports that it was causing blood clot which could result to death.
Isiolo Health Executive Wario Galma and Chief Officer Ibrahim Alio have been appealing to the health care workers and support staff to be vaccinated.
The Mohamed-Kuti-led government could be forced to conduct thorough sensitization among the health workers and support staff for improved uptake.
Mr Galma, who took the jab during the launch of the exercise last week, stressed that the vaccine was safe and therefore no cause for alarm.
