A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer has been arraigned before a Court Martial at 78 Tank Battalion located in Isiolo County on charges of obtaining money by false pretence from a hopeful recruit.

Sergeant Andrew Muoki Mutua based at the Department of Defense in Hurlingham-Nairobi is being accused of committing the offence contrary to section 133 (1) b of KDF Act 2012 back in December 2019.

The court heard that the 40-year-old soldier conned 21-year-old, Edwin Kinyua from Kerugoya in Kirinyaga County Sh300,000 promising to help him secure a military job during the nationwide recruitment exercise.

The special court also heard that the money was reportedly deposited into the suspect’s bank account.

The officer is also accused of conning one, Nelson Kabwere Sh180,000 promising to also offer him a KDF job.

Isiolo court Chief Magistrate Samuel Mungai who is presiding over the case adjourned the hearing to a later date after one of the witnesses fell sick.
