Thirteen people have applied to replace the former Chief Justice David Maraga who proceeded on retirement mid last month.
Surprisingly, none of the Supreme court judges among them Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu who had intent to take over the CJ reins, was featured in the list of applicants shared by the Judicial Service Commission.
They are Prof Moni Wekesa, Ngatia Fredrick, Otondi Ontweka, Justice Mathew Nduma, Prof Otinga Mare, Justice D.K Marete and Alice Jepkoech Yano.
Others are Justice William Ouko, Lady Justice Martha Koome, Said Juma Chitembwe, Ombongi Brian Matagaro, Prof Patricia Mbote and Philip Kipchirchir Murgor.
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) also shared a list of nine applicants for the position of Judge of the Supreme Court.
“The commission will shortlist and publicise the list in 14 days,” the letter dated February 10 and signed by JSC secretary Anne Amadi read in part.
