Five suspected fraudsters claiming to be selling cancer-cure seeds have been arrested at Kanyakine market in Meru County by Tharaka Nithi police officers.
The suspects among them two Arabs are being held at Chogoria Police Station waiting to be arraigned in a Chuka court.
The suspects, four men and a woman were enticed into a trap by a police informer from Chogoria area in Maara Sub County posing as a customer.
Addressing journalists at Chogoria Police Station on Friday, Maara Sub County Police Commander Mr Mohamed Jarso said the suspects were arrested with several seeds that they were selling to the informer.
He said according to the initial investigations, the seeds that they sell at Sh5000 each are found inside the neighbouring Mount Kenya Forest.
Mr Jarso said according to the information given by the victims, the fraudsters approach unsuspecting members of the public and presents themselves as business people dealing with the ‘cancer curing seeds’.
He added that sometimes they target cancer patients or their relatives.
