Isiolo County is racing against time to register its community land before September deadline to pave way for the adjudication process which will enable residents get title deeds for their land.
Isiolo Speaker Hussein Roba said community land registration was the county’s main priority in 2021 and that they were hopeful that the process will be completed in three months’ time.
Mr Roba said for the process to run smoothly, five MPs, who have been demanding revocation of amended gazette notice that allows adjudication at townships and settled areas, must join hands with the Governor Mohamed Kuti administration.
The schedule like the previous one issued in August 2019 excludes Lapsset Corridor, Resort City, military and security installations, national reserves and holding grounds.
The differences between Dr Kuti and Senator Fatuma Dullo, Woman Rep Rehema Jaldesa, Nominated Senator Abshiro Halake and MPs Abdi Koropu and Hassan Odha of Isiolo South and North has delayed the process and denied residents right to the ownership documents.
“It is time we sit down and reason together so that the process does not delay,” Mr Roba said while assuring that the exercise will consider concerns raised by the public.
The Speaker complained that the discord between leaders continued to affect development and asked them to work together for common good of Mwananchi.
Land CS Farida Karoney in October 2020 asked counties with community land to, in consultation with their communities, submit their inventories to expedite the registration process in line with Community Land Act 2016.
