KANU Party leader Gideon Moi has asked pastoral counties to support the Building Bridges Initiative to protect some of their constituencies from dissolution.
The Baringo Senator said the only way to ensure constituencies that lack the required minimum population are not dissolved was through constitutional amendments contained in the BBI report.
While addressing Samburu residents at Wamba stadium, the legislator drummed support for the report saying it would empower devolution and enhance development at the grassroots.
Mr Moi, who was accompanied by Baringo Woman Rep Gladwell Cheruiyot, cited increased allocation of shareable revenue to counties from 15 to 35 percent and the Ward development fund among the benefits.
“If we are to continue using the current constitution, you risk losing Samburu East constituency which translates to reduced development in the region. The constitutional amendments will salvage the situation,” said Mr Moi.
Ms Cheruiyot noted the pastoral communities were not concerned about who becomes Prime Minister saying development was their key concern.
Her Samburu counterpart Maison Leshoomo said that the BBI report was a reflection of views from Kenyans who shared their opinions during public forums conducted by the 14-member Taskforce across the 47counties.
“The content of the report are views of Kenyans from across the country that we collected during the public forums,” said Ms Leshoomo who was part of the BBI Taskforce.
Samburu Assembly Speaker Solomon Lempere said the county was tired of being in the Opposition and wanted to be part of the government.
Over 10 MCAs promised to rally residents to support the document that they said will ensure increased development and improve the livelihoods of their electorates.
Mr Wonyang said they must support the report to be part of the government saying that they could not afford to be in the Opposition.
Among the MCAs were Benjamin Leitore (Wamba West), Joseph Leshipayi (Baawa) Jeris Leshoomo (Lodokejek), Ekutan Wonyang (Waso) and Nominated Osman Dube, Silapia Lentukunye, Elizabeth Kalapata, and Antonella Lobura.
