Nyamira Governor John Nyangarama, 74, has taken his last breath while receiving treatment at a Nairobi hospital.
The second term Governor had been admitted in the Intensive Care Unit on suspicion of Covid-19 complications.
He is reported to have stayed at the life-support machine for close to a month.
Kenyans had earlier claimed that the Governor had died but the family insisted he was recuperating well.
