Tharaka Nithi County Assembly led by Speaker David Mbaya and Clerk Amos Sikweya has achieved a great milestone in its legislative role by passing ten bills during the Fourth Session.
Article 185 (2) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 gives County Assembly a role of making laws necessary for the effective performance of the functions of the County Government.
Some of the passed bills are: Tharaka Nithi County Supplementary Appropriation Bill 2020, TNC Supplementary (11) Appropriation Bull 2020, TNC Appropriation Bill 2020, TNC Persons with Disabilities Bill 2020, TNC Tea Bill 2019, and TNC Traffic and Transport Management Bill 2020.
Others are; TNC Reproductive Health Rights Bill 2020, TNC Flags, Emblem and Name Protection Bill 2020 and TNC Youth Empowerment Bill 2020.
Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki on Tuesday assented to six bills among them the Tharaka Nithi County Youth Empowerment Bill of 2020 seeks to empower youths economically.
Speaking after the exercise at the county assembly premises, Njuki lauded the Members of the County Assembly for their prowess in scrutinizing the bills before passing them.
“I applaud this honorable house for having scrutinized various legislative bills in a very short time and passing them for the benefit of the county residents,” said Governor Njuki.
Other legislations that were assented into were: Tharaka Nithi County Flag, Emblem and Name Protection Act, 2020, Tea Act, 2019, Traffic and Transport management Act, 2020, Climate Change Fund Act, 2019 and Investment and Development Corporation Act, 2019.
