The fast-growing Weru TV has poached an industrious brilliant young journalist, Mr Martin Mugambi from Destiny TV.
Mugambi who will be reporting from Maara constituency is expected to add a lot of value to the media house that also owns Weru Radio.
The television and radio stations based in Meru town which broadcasts in Ameru dialect targets the larger Mt Kenya East region that covers Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Embu, Isiolo, and Laikipia Counties and Kenya’s Capital Nairobi.
The media station that started few years ago but currently with a population reach of over 11 million people is owned by John Marete, a veteran journalist and a former employee of Royal Media Services.
Speaking to the Press Point, elated Mugambi said he will continue to diligently discharge his duties in a professional manner to help the media station realize its goals.
“It feels bad leaving but I am happy for the trust that my new employer has in me and I will surely deliver to the company’s expectations,” Mr Mugambi said while lauding his mentor and veteran journalist Kenneth Marangu.
“Congratulations Mugambi on your being appointed Weru TV’s man in Maara. Keep on banging copy,” Mr Marangu, the Tharaka Nithi County Information Officer shared online after receiving the news.
Before he was picked by Destiny TV that broadcasts in English and Swahili, Mugambi had briefly reported for Mwenda Antu FM from Tharaka constituency which he had joined from Meru TV where he had worked for some years as a reporter in Tharaka Nithi County.
The youthful graduate of Mt Kenya University is known for his creativity in news packaging and for his go-getter personality.
Mugambi is a member of Tharaka Nithi Press Association (TNPA), a welfare group bringing together professional journalists based in the county.
He is also a husband and a father of one.
The TNPA Chairman, Mr Alex Njeru lauded the management of Weru TV/Radio for identifying the talented journalist and giving him a chance to grow his career and earn a living.
He described Mugambi as curious, alert and impartial journalist who has a long nose for news.
“Mugambi has excellent verbal, written, improvisational, and interviewing skills which are imperative for any good reporter,” said Mr Njeru who works for Nation Media Group.
Ms Lisa Kathure Mukuru, the Royal Media Service correspondent in the region and her Standard Group counterpart Mr Dickson Mwiti termed Mugambi as a journalist who is able to think on his feet and take the best to his editor.
“Mugambi has a bright future in journalism because of his ambitiousness and smart brain,” said Mr Mwiti.
Mr Paul Kabithi and Sammy Gaicima report for Weru TV/Weru Radio in Tharaka and Chuka/Igambang’ombe constituencies respectively.
